Beaford Country House

Places to Eat

You might fancy a break from cooking (especially for 23) so why not venture out and try some of our local pubs and restaurants. Devon is full of delightful places to eat or just enjoy a local ale or cider.

We have tried several of these as you can imagine having lived here for so long and would be happy to recommend the following (please bear in mind that if you are descending in force booking is essential)

  • The Duke of York, Iddesleigh: Famed for its connection with the book and film ‘War Horse’, This is a typical old style country pub, where very little has changed for decades. Great home cooked food and warm atmosphere.
  • The Kings Arms Winkleigh: Offering great food and a lovely fresh feel to this thatched country pub.

A little further afield you can be sure to find many restaurants serving locally caught fish and seafood.

  • The Boathouse in Instow ( 12 miles ). Situated across the road from the beach and the fantastic sea views, The Boathouse offers a great selection of meat and local fish dishes. Tel no 01271 861292.
  • Instow Arms is next door to the Boathouse. This pub/restaurant offers great pub food with fantastic views. Tel no 01271 860608
  • The Hoops Inn  (12 miles) on the A39 towards Bude is a beautiful old thatched pub. They offer bar meals and a restaurant area. Tel no 01237 451222
  • The New Inn, Sampford Courtney (8 miles) We love it here, loads of choice, great food and great service.

A useful website is www.northdevonfood.com. It provides great information with all the best places to eat and drink in and around North Devon.
